NOROCK - Palace/Dream

I was lookin' at 8bc.org for a while this morning but I got kind of burned out to be honest. So I decided to just throw one song by me (Palace) and one song by me and then made probably seventeen times better by J. Arthur Keenes (Dream). Enjoy them!

I Fight Dragons - The Faster The Treadmill (LSDJ Version)

In Chicago there is an awesome alt-rock band named I Fight Dragons who have this crazy retro-nerd style. All their sites are an amalgam of pixel art, and they are never seen without a superhero t-shirt on. It is just part of the way they roll. Well, I've been hesitant in the past to feature one of their "actual" songs, something like what you would get on a CD of theirs, since they incorporate chiptunes into their more conventionally staffed instrumentation rather than featuring the 8-bit (or 16-bit as is often the case in this style, if you wanna get technical) sound standing on its own. Even their last song on 8BC - which was just game boys accompanying singing - didn't make my "cut" because it was a cover of John Mayer (emphasis on COVER, I don't have a problem with John Mayer!). Well, this song is a nice LSDJ-only version of what is probably my favorite song of theirs. So I get to feature it, no problem!

Dexter - At Last

Well this was easy! First song I click on this morning proved to be quite the tune. I didn't even listen to any options, 'cause this song is so good.

ShnabubulaEX - MJ

With the passing away of the most famous solo musician of all time, I decided to snoop out a Michael Jackson chiptune cover. I was thinking of using Virt's rendition of "Thriller", or 486's cover of "Billie Jean"(one of the only other hits when I searched "Michael Jackson" on 8bc.org yesterday), but since then ShnabubulaEX made a SEGA Genesis version of Man in the Mirror. So I put up the newest one (that's sorta my thing) but decided to put links to all three in the post!

RIP MJ

Phase Terminale - Rewards

A really pleasant NES song, it was exactly what I felt like hearing this morning. Phase Terminale puts out on average one release a month, a pace far less than the average 8BCer. I think it's a better pace, and that the community would be better served by only having around 5 songs uploaded every day instead of 15 or whatever it gets. Too much music over there, sometimes, and it makes artists like Phase Terminale, artists that don't have new songs every week, virtually disappear!

Naruto - CS5.MP3

Naruto has quite a wide range of techniques and styles. Just sample a few of the songs on his website, and I can almost guarantee that they'll sound totally different! Also, this fella's been making this music for over ten years now, maybe 15. However, besides a track on the 8BP050 release I haven't heard of him anywhere else (it's rather tough to find an artist named Naruto, thanks to the rampant popularity of the anime). Well, there's a link to the guy's website in this post! Go check it out!

(If anyone can get a better track name for me I'd appreciate it; it just shows up as random ASCII characters in winamp/itunes)

Nobody - Blue Tree Zone

Kind of old song (from April of this year, just a few days before this site came into existence), but it's really sweet! This fellow, Nobody, made an NES song yesterday or the day before and I was clicking through his past songs and I found this, which is awesome. It has the legendary Genesis slap bass sample in it, which... If you took any song and threw in the slap bass sample, you'd have a Sonic level. Seriously!

Doctor NK - Taking it Easy in Hawaii

Found this dude on Twitter, and he made some pretty cool tunes, but the release had the strangest name I'd ever seen: "8BIT: TAKE IT ℳℴℯ❤". All in all a pretty cool collection of something like a dozen songs? When I first saw it I was like... "Who the heck is Moe?", but of course, he was referring to something besides the bartender from The Simpsons...

Anyway. It's a pretty cool tune! Twitter has shown itself useful for something!

Melkor - Mr. Kite

Because it's Father's Day (in the States, don't know if anyone else CARES ABOUT THEIR DADS AS MUCH AS US (haha, kidding)) I decided I'd do a song my dad would recognize and hopefully enjoy. Yes, it's the first cover song featured here. Sue me. Also it's kind of old. Double lawsuit action me. True Facts: It was one of my earliest "Liked" items on 8bc.org! Have a cool Sunday, and sorry about the late(ish) update!

Kplecraft - Okesuchi

Since 8bc.org is down, I've got to find something off a new release that hosts their music on their own turf, or pick an old-school song and upload it to my secret fortress server. These guys are really worth getting into. The release this was part of, "Multi-Boxer", is really phenomenal. The track after this one is like... Dragon Warrior meets Euro Rave Party. It's truly... Something else!

Anyway, enjoy this complex, harmonic, slowly shape-shifting song! It's a good one!

BONUS: I found a video they made to go with this song! I highly suggest you watch this instead of just listening to the song! It's awesome!!

DJ Jo Quaid 5 - Do The Brick Walk

A little bit of funky dancing with some cool laser sounds and a droning one-note bassline for your Friday! This is one of those songs I'm really glad I found and get to feature, since on 8bc.org it's buried, and before me had no likes or comments... Yeah, I know. I make the world a better place.

8 Bit Weapon - Chip On Your Shoulder

A cool track off of these guys' new EP "Electric High", which you can buy on their site for some bucks! It consists of a lot of samples from a lot of different machines, which they made into a Sony Sound Library. I think it's pretty cool that they made that. I like large assortment of drums samples they used in this song, which is probably due to their assembling a large collection of those things! Anyway who cares about me talking, listen to it!!!!

Pulselooper - Wonky Bits

With a title that good, how can you not expect total awesomeness? Actually the title's probably my least favorite part of this song. He credited The Chemical Brothers and The Crystal Method as his influences, and what can I say? I love those "bands", so naturally I like this track. Check. It. Out.

J. Arthur Keenes - Benjamin Franklin

I really don't know where he got the name from. This is some cool club music, not anything that reminds me of Benjamin Franklin. But then, no music reminds me of Benjamin Franklin. I think of him when I see an ol' wood-burning stove or an old-fashioned diamond-shaped kite with a little tail coming off the bottom, or when I see guys with spectacles on.

It's a pretty cool song. I think Ben Franklin would have been proud.

Jeroen Tel - Alternative Fuel || IAYD - Redshift

So yesterday I didn't update!!!!!!!!! AHHHH!!!

Actually I don't think anyone but my brother noticed... The real reason is that I wanted to mess with you guys and skip a day, then do BOTH THINGS that I was hinting at the day before last! Actually that's not true, I just couldn't find Jeroen Tel's "Alternative Fuel" anywhere online, and I couldn't upload it because I was at work and later because I was out for dinner and a movie. Then I remembered at 10 last night and decided to just cut my losses and do a double update today.

SO CHECK IT OUT!!!!!

Jeroen Tel's "Alternative Fuel" is one of my favorite chiptunes. Back when I had sound in my car (everything got stolen, unfortunately), I always had a CD with this song on it. I think I had 3 or 4 discs with all different songs except for this one, which was always present. It's... SO GOOD! He is a bit different from your "normal" chiptune artist in that his day-to-day job is a musician. He made music for NES, Genesis, C64, etc. games for money! Woah!! Virt is the same way, actually. You know. The guy from a couple updates ago. This song is off of the awesome 8BP050, which was the album that single-handedly got me into chiptunes. You should get it!!!!

IAYD's new release, "Supergalactic", available from the venerable 8bitpeoples chip-label, seems like it was made for me. It's all about outer space, there's a song called "Physics" for cryin' out loud! So I was quick to check it out (not to mention it came out the same day and from the same site as Starscream's awesome "Future, And It Doesn't Work" release) and was thoroughly impressed. They're all good tracks, but I featured this song since it's what I decided was my car's Autobot name (it's red and stuff, I think it fits!). Listen! Listennnnn!!!!!!

Cerror - Je Moeder

HEY WHAT DO I THINK I'M DOING HERE. I'll bet you all were expecting me to do another old tune (the Jeroen Tel I mentioned yesteday, perhaps) or maybe a song off of the new IAYD or Velo releases. Well I was thinking all those things too, then I figured... HOW BORINGLY PREDICTABLE! So I picked a really slick tune right off the front page of 8bc.org in my familiar way, just to RATTLE YOUR CAGE.

Don't get me wrong, though! This Cerror tune was not picked as mere novelty! The song is, like most every .xm track out there, very catchy, very nice-on-the-ears, with super clean drums and a lead instrument that's just so good, refreshing, soothing, chilled out, etc., that you could probably heal small wounds by playing the music on them in a concentrated fashion.

I'LL GET TO THE OTHER RELEASES TOMORROW SLASH NEXT FEW DAYS...

...Or will I?!

Starscream - Rise Of Space

Okay, I have some explaining to do, I'm aware. I told you all I was going to play some old music for a week. I had a good one by Jeroen Tel picked out for today, but it'll just have to wait. See, here's the thing. Starscream just dropped an EP that is... Unbelievable. Back in April, they uploaded track three of this EP, a song called "Gravity In Terms Of Space Time". I almost featured it right then, but decided to hold off until the release that they said the song would be a part of, so that I could say "hey guys check out their whole release!" instead of saying "hey guys let's wait for this to come out!!".

Hey guys, check out their whole release!!

So yes. I have been anticipating this album for a couple months. I'm sure they've been holding onto bits of it much longer than that (the fact that they had a full track produced in late April hints that that may be the case). This track in particular is an great mix of styles and moods, which is why I picked it. Truly a must-download, this I cannot emphasize enough.

You need to listen to everything Virt's ever made. This guy is just unreal good.

Here's a few of his songs! The Blast Off Saga! I do not recommend playing all three of them at once.

Also there's another one (entitled "Blast Off Bonus Beats") but it didn't wanna play in the flash thing when I put it on here. It's a re-done version of the first song that's really cool. It's here!

GiveUpNewYork - Gravitational Lensing

Probably the first song on here made in Nanoloop since it's such an infuriatingly repetitive program. But!! This song is pretty solid. Did you know? Gravitational lensing is an optical phenomena that happens when stars that are behind a mass of light-absorbing or light-emitting stuff, but you can see them anyway because the light goes - WHOOOOOSH - around the mass? It is an effect that was predicted by Einstein's relativity, and later confirmed during a total solar eclipse when people checked out the sky and noticed stars that were technically behind the sun were visible just next to it instead. IT IS BECAUSE MASS WARPS SPACE-TIME INTO GRAVITATIONAL WELLS THAT BEND IT LIKE THE PATH OF A MARBLE TRAVELING ACROSS A CURVED PLANE I am sure you have seen this on the Discovery Channel or something before.

Anyway, here it is! It's a song! It's cool.

Dr. Szliszka - Like a Fly Into the Web

Part of an eternally long conflict between fictional supervillain Dr. Szliszka and super space hero Captain Sievert, the story behind this song is a successful trap employed by Szliszka, capturing Sievert and potentially ending their feud with the death of the universe's most legendary hero!

Updates from these guys come out pretty often and I've really enjoyed reading about it all. Today's song is truly excellent, but be sure to check out the pages of Sievert and Szliszka (two separate 8bc accounts) to get the whole story!!

BITFORBIT - Megamix the Gunblaze

This is the kind of music I heard long ago before I was familiar with "Chiptunes" (much less involved in making my own or supporting the "movement") that made me want to hear more of this stuff. It was a new type of electronica with a sound vastly different from what I was used to, and it was so cool I just had to get more and more! So I found 8BP and used a Firefox extension to download every .mp3 file on the page (this was right after 8BP050, and all the releases were still on one page).

One click later, and I was on my way to having a somewhat respectable collection of about 440 chiptune tracks by a wide variety of artists.

That's really neither here nor there, what I'm trying to get at is that this kind of chiptune, this one HERE, is a kind I wasn't aware was still under production. It has the sound of the classics, which is probably why this song grabbed my attention after hearing only 10 seconds of it.

Algar - Bengan's Livs

I don't know if it's a typo for "lives" or if it's some other language or something. Either way, dude just got on 8bc.org and uploaded like 10 tracks that I had the pleasure of listening to this morning. Phlogiston - Access Codes

Off of one of Phlogiston's two latest release "Heat" (the other being "Croqel Adventure", which combine to make one large release called "Nectar"). This song is absolutely incredible. Wicked sweet guitars (not the Anamanaguchi chord guitar that lays under their chip stuff, or the Norrin Radd death metal chip, both of which were featured here before) that absolutely shine. They are clear, melodic, and really really cool.

His whole release was put out in the .FLAC file format only, for reasons he explained in a post that quickly followed a few comments that sounded like "What, only FLACs? Where can I get an MP3 version??? :(" At any rate, I converted all the songs to MP3 so I can listen to them on my... PORTABLE MUSIC DEVICE.

Coda - Discovery, Hot Pepper Groove, and Sinus Infection (THREE tracks!)

Today you are all going to hear about Coda, the man with the plan and the man with the intense chiptune skills. This guy... Argh! He makes such good music, you guys! Only... All his songs are TORTUROUSLY SHORT. So I did the only logical thing, I featured three of them at once! These are all songs I've wanted to do before, but I dunno. Something stopped me from doing it (the other fantastic tracks I've featured, maybe?) So I'm bundling up a few of the tracks that make me love Coda's music and flip out a little bit every time I see he's uploaded something new. ENJOY THESE!

Also it should be noted that Hot Pepper Groove was a cool team-up between Coda and another artist named Surasshu.
