Xylo - Friday

The latest 8-Bit Daily of all time. Forgive my tardiness, my faithful readers/listeners! I am here with delicious demoscene .mod .xm music stuff! It's like when a parent is running late home from work and it's just awful weather outside with ice on the roads and power outages are surely just minutes away and they're already flashing school closings for the next day on the TV because this is "the big one" and you're starting to get worried and maybe they got in a car accident and maybe they're never going to come home and what's this somebody's pulling into the driveway oh god oh god it's the police isn't it they're here to tell me that I'm going to be an orphan and move to the Czech Republic or something but then~!! Oh they're home! And they brought A PIPING HOT PIZZA! That's why they were late! Oh I was acting so silly, of course they were okay, what was I thinking!

Maktone - Playing With Music

This song is totally nuts. Way extremely awesome. I'm having a hard time writing a description, so I will use words by themselves (in the fashion of WEB TWO POINT OH "tagging").

Fast! Varied. EXTREME. Amiga? Percussive! Groovy! Choppy. Dark.

WELL THAT ABOUT SUMS IT UP, wouldn't you say? And an important note: The longer you listen, the crazier the song gets!

Hpizzle - Vampire Explosion

The guy's second featured track on this site, it's a fun song that boasts some great composition. Catchy I think is the word for that.

Rockmonitor - Highlight

An awesome Amiga tune, of all things, which is sweet because it sounds like it's from the old Jazz Jackrabbit games. They have awesome music, and awesome FM-Synth-like noises! So this is a good tune for those very reasons. EXCELLENT.

Zombectro - Raining Blood (Slayer Cover)

This song is amazing in its own right, but when you consider that it was made with Nanoloop... Well, you get the ROM and try to make anything close to this good and tell me how that goes. I have no idea how he did this, but it's absolutely ballistic.

Matt Wilson/SAVESTATES - Desperate Times Call For Desperate Pleasures

This guy is awesome at composing music. I was so glad to see he had released a new track on 8bc.org! So I featured it, as is my way. I still go back and listen to "Mother's Meltdown" all the time. That song is so good too!

ShnabubulaEX - Tasmanian Dizzy Mix

Sooper awesome technical guitar solo jam session chipbreak arps with holy chords elevator melodies and dope grooves. ARE YOU READY TO HANDLE ALL THAT? Made with a big ol' pile of video game instrument samples.

Coda - Moon Lander

The fourth song Coda has on this website (don't get carried away now, the last three were all in one post!), this is a great display of the DUALITY OF CODA. It's got the slowest groove I think I've ever heard him put out, coupled with some jammin' fast bits. And it's all in that silky-smooth .xm style that, by now, I think you can understand that I'm in love with. GET TO IT.

T7ES - Theme from Zurich

If this were a panting, it would be an Escher. Or maybe a Picasso. It's a very interesting track that goes all over the place but isn't frustratingly detached from normalcy. Just a little bit more off the grid than Matt Wilson's stuff. All in all: Fantastic!

Nordloef - Buddy Holly

And thus ends me featuring this 8-bit chiptune album! I'd do more, yes I would, but everyone who's interested in this and frequents this site should have downloaded it by now, so I won't continue to play songs y'all have heard. Enjoy!

Bit Shifter - The World Has Turned And Left Me Here

From possibly the biggest name in chiptunes (he's part of the 8bitpeoples crew, an admin on 8bc.org, and who knows what else) comes this awesome cover of The World Has Turned And Left Me Here, again by Weezer, off of that same great release as yesterday's (and tomorrow's) 8-Bit Daily!!

Tugboat - El Scorcho

I have to admit, I've got a pretty busy day today so I was not exactly looking forward to picking today's 8-Bit Daily... But then, WHAT HAPPENS?! I forgot that the awesome WEEZER COVER ALBUM dropped today from Pterodactyl Squad!!! Needless to say, I'll be featuring a few songs from this album.

Did I mention Weezer is my favorite band of all time?!

hpizzle - Cutsman (Cover)

Apparently a cover of a song by a band called Horse? Horse the band? I've never heard of them. Anyway it's some good rock chiptunes stuff with a really killer tempo change in it and then some sweet drums and sweet sweet ssswwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeett.

Rez - Cuckoo Song

Cover of an old song that sparked a bit of pointless controversy over on 8bc.org. But anyway, the song is ridiculously pleasant (not "happy" where it sounds so cheesy with all the offbeats some note with ludicrous amounts of positive pitch-bend and a pulse channel with notes so high it's the equivalent of digesting two cups of sugar, but "pleasant", mind you) and awesome. So I'm just going to leave it at that and let you enjoy the song.

Neutron - Maximum Powerchip (The Hippest Hop)

Something a bit different, but this song is really cool. Sounds a bit like low-fi .sylCMYK (who is himself low-fi... jazz or something, right?) at parts. I think if this song were a dude, he would be a cool dude who hangs out at sweet parties and knows how to do all sorts of cool stuff like throw a triple 20 every time in darts or pick up a 7/10 split in bowling or something. NOTHING BUT QUALITY MUSIC REVIEW HERE, FOLKS.

Some Amiga Mod Fella - Some Amiga Mod Song

Stolen song passed off as original by a guy whose username was "DEMOMASTER". I cannot find out who was the original artist was, nor can I find the name of the track, so until I do this post is just a placeholder.

Oh and you can't listen to the song to try and figure out who made it because it's been taken down from 8bc.org :X

ant1 - La Mayoria de las Gaviotas

Cool song to chill out to a little bit. I'd imagine if you were walking around and kind of prone to such things you might be tempted to strut while listening to this song. It seems like a nice song to walk funny to. Anyway, enjoy!

An awesome .xm sort of tune, a perfect part of a balanced breakfast. If you feel like this when you wake up, then my friend, you are living the life. It's like... Refinement incarnate. So classy! Well I'm done gushing, I just really like this track. Seeya tomorrow!

WoodlandAlien - Cavernous

A nice spacey contemplative tune made in one of my favorite music programs, PXTONE!! It was of course embellished by more sophisticated software, but it's still nice knowing that people are making music with that humble piece of freeware awesomeness. Try it out!! Oh and you might want to delete the file japanese.ico from the folder, it'll make everything in English.

EvilWezil - Veridis Quo

Off of the recently released 8-bit Daft Punk cover album "Da Chip" comes a rendition of maybe my favorite Daft Punk song. I just couldn't help myself! Obviously the whole CD compilation is worth getting, and I highly recommend it if only to hear this song and Random's version of "Short Circuit". That's plenty of reason on its own. So go! Download it as hard as you can!!

Wingz - Boardin' in Green Valley

A good song from an 8bc new guy. It's his first and only submission, and it's pretty great! Another user compared it to Paul McCartney. I think that's a pretty accurate statement. Wooooooooooooooooooooooooo check it out.

Sci - Superdrums

This is Sci's first submission and so far as I can tell his only public song. The drums are, as you might expect, really cool. I recommend downloading it and playing it on repeat with a program that makes that easily possible, like Winamp or something. The loop needs to be totally seamless. Anyway it's really short, so you might (like me) play it a few times in a row!

Zan-Zan-Zawa-Veia - Evil Twin

This song accomplishes a few of the things I was hoping to do in today's post. The first, and most obvious goal, was to post a friggin' chiptune that'll make you say "yeah". Mission accomplished there. The second was to showcase an awesome compilation that just went down on 8bc.org called "Something Different". It's an awesome mashup of sixteen different artists and genres, some of them pretty self-explanatory (Easy Listening, Ambient, Bitpop), some of them familiar though not in the context of chiptunes (Neoclassical, Bluegrass, Industrial Waltz), and some of them just plain weird (Post-Orangejuice Rehabilitation [which is a joke most people won't get], Environmental Sound Collapse [the name of the artist who made the song actually, indicative of the fact that he is genre-defining], and of course Industrial Afrobeat Showtunes).

This song is just that. Industrial Afrobeat Showtunes. If you ever wondered what that was, then... Well I don't know what to tell you. How did you come up with that?? The rest of us, however, have something to learn from this. Though, I'm not completely sure what. But it's valuable and once-in-a-lifetime. So enjoy today's tune!

Cerebral Scars - Connect

So, this song's way different from what I usually pick. It's some good minimalist techno. Pretty dark (just wait'll you see the album cover art), and pretty glitchy. His whole album is stuff like this, and the "startup sequence" at the beginning is pretty killer. Get the whole thing at kittenrock, or the bottom of this post!

Algar - Bakom Ett Galler

This is Algar's second time being featured. This song is off of 8bc's recent "night stalker" compilation, a theme that challenged artists involved to make a dark or sinister sound. Maybe it's just that I like the style, or maybe it's that the compilation got together some really talented folks, but it is definitely one of the highlights of 8bc's innumerable catalogue of collaborative efforts. I'd definitely recommend downloading the whole thing!

Dr. Zilog - No Pain, No Gain

What's more American than some heavy metal? Probably heavy metal with semi trucks ramping over other, exploding semi trucks, and the president's driving the jumping semi truck, and then a bunch of fighter jets fly overhead and some giant American flag is illuminated and the whole crowd takes one look at it, takes off their hats and sheds a single tear for freedom. What's only slightly less American? The same sort of music rendered on a bunch of Japanese electronics.

Happy fourth of July!!

Chupathingy - HAHA Oh wow!

Chupathingy's a pretty interesting artist, his last "album" was actually one 10-minute long MP3. This song was made with some new chip-synth called "Plogue Chipsounds". It actually appears as though they took seven major sound chips and soldered them all together (okay they did more than that but let's move on) to make one box that is capable of accurately making the sounds of a whole bunch of retro devices. Wow! Can't wait to get my hands on one!

Jredd - Blip Shards

Made with a music program for the Nintendo DS, "Korg DS-10", this song is no easy feat. Normally, DS-10 songs are ridiculously repetitive, like nanoloop tracks. They usually sound a bit boring, and while the program has the capability to produce awesome noises (apparent in this song) most people don't know how to truly get them out of the cartridge.

Of course, that's not to say that I know the secrets. I've never touched DS-10! But this song will really show you what this program is capable of. I've heard volumes of tunes made with DS-10 and I can say with confidence that this is the best of what I've heard.

KILL ARCADIAN - A Lonely Daze

A bit different from my usual style (if it can be said that I have a usual style), this song really hit the spot today. Not that I ate it, I'm just saying. It's a really ambient tune, thanks to the relaxed melody and epic (though still tasteful) level of reverb, but then it breaks into a bit more "active" a tune and really draws one in.
